Greeting and Leave Taking
Greeting is a kind of question or statement to begin a conversation. It can be formal and informal. It depends on the situation.


Formal greeting
·         Good morning
·         Good afternoon
·         Good evening
·         Hello, how are you?
·         Etc.

Responses
·         Hello
·         Hello, good afternoon
·         I’m fine. Thank you
·         Good evening


Informal greeting
·         Hi, how’s life?
·         What’s news?
·         How’s everything?
·         How’s business?
·         Good to see you
·         How are you going on?

Responses
·         Terrific/ great, and you?
·         Just fine, thanks.
·         All right thanks
·         Pretty well. What about you?



The information
·         We can say GOOD MORNING when we meet someone early in the morning between 1 a.m. to 12 a.m. in the middle of day.
·         We can say GOOD DAY when we meet someone in the middle of day around 12 a.m.
·         We can say GOOD AFTERNOON when we meet someone in the afternoon between 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
·         We can say GOOD EVENING when we meet someone in the evening at around 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.
For informal greetings, we can say to someone that we have already known before. It can be said at any time of the day.
Beside the greeting expression, there are a lot of expressions that can be used to end the conversation. We can call it leave taking or saying good bye.
There are the leave taking expressions which can be used to say good bye. It can be seen below:
·         Sorry, I’ve got to go
·         Well, talk to you later, then.
·         Please, excuse me but I really have to be going
·         Good bye and give me regard to Mr. ………/ Mrs. ………
·         See you later
·         Take care.
·         So long.
·         Good bye, Liya. See you tomorrow.
·         Bye bye, Liya. Have a nice evening.
